A scarce and very substantial 'Galaxis' vase with pulled rim, designed in the late 1970s or early 1980s by Prof. Michael Böhm for Rosenthal's long-running artist-driven 'Studio Linie' series.
The vase comprises a very thick-walled compressed cylinder form decorated in dark purple canes fused flat to the surface which create a wonderful visual appeal, especially where the rim has been pulled out at the top of the vase. Indisde the vase, at the very bottom, is a domed 'puck' of dark purple glass, effectively inset into the vase when it was being blown.
It's this dark mass at the centre around which the 'spiral arms' of the canes rotate - giving the vase its galactic moniker.
'Rosenthal - Studio Linie' acid stamp to the base.
