Sommerso Splash Bowl, c.1965

Ferro & Lazzarini (attrib.), Italy

Sold! (approx. € EUR / $ USD)

A very sculptural, very substantial, and very colourful footed bowl of tricorn-form, attributed to the Ferro & Lazzarini glassworks, Murano, in the 1960s.

It is decorated a sommerso, literally 'submerged' - a technique that has different layers of colour suspended within one another to decorative effect. This vase has a blue-green core arranged like a frozen splash of coloured water, couched within a layer of pinky-purple graduating to clear, and then finally cased in an extremely thick layer of clear glass.
