A unique freeblown vase with dented sides and a bi-colour decoration, by Toni Zuccheri for Barovier & Toso in 1987.
One half of the vase is covered in thousands of tiny chips of brown, amber and red glass fused flat to the surface, shot through with powdered copper aventurine and minute random bubbles, lending it an understated metallic sheen. The other half is similarly shrouded in tiny chips of an opalescent blue-green, also with minute bubbles.
The base is signed 'Barovier & Toso - Murano - Prova d'Autore - 1987', marking it as an artist's proof, or prototype. It's not known if the design was put into commercial production. The vase was originally acquired from a member of the Barovier family some years ago.
