A unique sculptural glass vase designed and blown by Samuel (Sam) J. Herman, arguably the founder of the British studio glass movement, in 1973 at The Glasshouse.
Of an organic, irregular stone-like form, the vase is freeblown and finished to the top with a small aperture. The glass itself contains a mix of green, opal and clear, and is decorated to the surface with maelström of random applied trails, suspended powders and strong petrol-like iridesence.
Signed and dated to the base, "Samuel J. Herman, 1973' and a model code, '191'.
