A very large and very substantial bulbous black glass vase, designed by Antonio Da Ros for Gino Cenedese & C., Murano, in 1983 as a part of the 'Oriente' series.
The exterior is decorated a scavo - a technique whereby the vase is rolled in ashes and salts whilst still semi-molten to create the time-weathered look of excavated Roman glass.
The 'Oriente' series differs somewhat from ordinary 'white ash' scavo glass designed by Da Ros, in that it additionally incorporates iridescence, and applied gold leaves and heavily oxidised metal particles in random configurations.
Indistinct engraved signature 'Cenedese' to the underside.
