Thick-walled urn-shaped glass vase in the Roman style, designed by Luigi Mellara for his own Murano glassworks in the early-mid 1980s.
The vase has unusual doubled handles on each side, and a frieze of a bordered zig-zag in a thick trail of glass that goes around its full circumference.
The vase is made of clear glass and exterior is surfaced with fused-on powdered pink glass that gives a subtly mottled effect, which has then been fumed with silver to give an iridescent sheen, and is further decorated a scavo - a technique whereby the vase is rolled in ashes and salts whilst still semi-molten to create the time-weathered look of excavated Roman glass.
