Exceptional centrepiece charger, designed for gallery exhibition by Antonio Da Ros c.1996 for Gino Cenedese & C., Murano.
Similar, but greatly simplified, æsthetics were used for the 1996 'Fossili' series, which had full commercial production. This earlier design was not produced commercially.
Of complex construction, it comprises a transparent orange bowl with applied irregular darker orange canes. The rim of the bowl, a very deep purple glass, has been applied using the incalmo technique, whereby two blown glass hemispheres of identical diameter are fused whilst molten and worked into the desired form. In the centre of the bowl is a disc of the same dark purple, applied a macchie, which has been decorated using selective silver fuming to give an opaque iridescent finish around an abstract design.
It is signed "Gino Cenedese" to the verso - the full signature being employed only on gallery-quality works executed at the factory (standard production items bear only 'Cenedese'). Also bears a foil factory label to the interior.
