'Cirrus' Glass Flush Lamp

Carl Fagerlund, c.1970

Orrefors, Sweden / Lyfa, Denmark

£225 (approx. € EUR / $ USD)

A large 'Cirrus' flush ceiling lamp of glass and brass, designed by Carl Fagerlund and produced at the Orrefors glasswork for Danish lighting firm, Lyfa, in the late 1960s or early 1970s.

The abstract crystal glass, described in original Lyfa catalogues as 'double corrugated', is textured on both sides - a panoply of extruded hemispheres and impressed facets, designed to imitate ostentatious cut crystal. In combination with the brass back-plate, the texture creates a rich and dispersed light.

The lamp takes five E14 Edison-screw bulbs. It weighs 7.1kg / 15.7lb.
