'Stromboli' Glass Table Lamp

Bengt Orup, 1963

Hyllinge Glasbruk, Sweden

£120 (approx. € EUR / $ USD)

A scarce vintage table lamp executed in thick and heavy glass from the 'Stromboli' series designed by seminal Swedish glass artist, Bengt Orup for Swedish glasswork, Hyllinge Glasbruk, in 1963.

The body of the lamp, with the dense bubbles and suspended dark granules encased in clear glass characteristic of the 'Stromboli' range - and of later Orup works for other factories - is a tall, shouldered, gently tapering cylinder capped off with a bonded clear glass puck with a waffle-iron texture to the reverse.

The lamp has been refitted with an Italian-made Bakelite E27 lampholder, with in-built switch, which is suitable for most modern British and traditional European shades. It has been rewired with premium vintage-style Italian-made twisted fabric cable in an ivory colour.

The lamp is signed (faintly) 'Orup H' to the base (with the 'H' for 'Hyllinge').
