'Atlantic' Wall Lamps, c.1970

Vitrika, Denmark

£165 (approx. € EUR / $ USD)

A vintage pair of 'Atlantic' wall lamps of glass and brass, produced by Danish lighting firm, Vitrika, in the 1970s.

The glass shades are hand-cast in heavy and very thick clear glass, with smooth fronts and textured interiors. Additionally, they have a thin iridescent gold-coloured layer to the interior, wrought by 'fuming' the glass - exposing it to the fumes of super-heated metals, which gives lends a richness to the light coming from the lamps. They simply slide on to the backplates via moulded grooves.

The lamps are designed to be hung on the wall by a single screw, hook or nail, with the cable trailing to a domestic socket (rather than being hard-wired). They take E14 Edison-screw bulbs.

Original label to the back of the lamps, which misspell 'Atlantic'.
