Bronze & Scavo Table Lamp

Vittorio Rigattieri, c.1978

Seguso Vetri d'Arte, Italy

£450 (approx. € EUR / $ USD)

A very sculptural and very large vintage glass and bronze table lamp in the form of a tall Roman urn, designed by Vittorio Rigattieri for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, Murano, in the late 1970s.

The body of the lamp is of a very thick clear glass that has been shot-blasted to create a pitted satin exterior, with two applied handles in a bright blue glass. The handles have been decorated a scavo - a technique whereby the glass is applied with ashes and salts whilst still semi-molten to create the time-weathered look of excavated Roman glass.

It is finished with a bronze cap, heavily patinated with verdigris to compliment the overall ancient look, and with further aged bronze detailing.

The lamp has been refitted with an Italian-made Bakelite E27 lampholder, with in-built switch, which is suitable for most modern British and traditional European shades. It has been rewired with premium vintage-style Italian-made twisted fabric cable in a complementary blue colour.

Bears a 1970s/80s factory label.
