A large and heavy glass table lamp, designed by Vittorio Rigattieri for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, Murano, in the late 1960s or early 1970s. It has a shouldered outline, and sits atop an applied button-shaped foot.
The base colour of the lamp is a dark amber-brown, with the exterior decorated a scavo - a technique whereby the glass is rolled in ashes and salts whilst still semi-molten to create the time-weathered look of excavated Roman glass. The brass cap has an acid-corroded finish to continue the 'aged' æthetic.
The lamp has been refitted with a period-style Italian black Bakelite E27 bulb-holder, to fit standard UK/European shades.
