Pair Purple 'Nautilus' Table Lamps

Vittorio Rigattieri, c.1970

Seguso Vetri d'Arte, Italy

Sold! (approx. € EUR / $ USD)

A pair of rare and large glass 'Nautilus' table lamps, designed by Vittorio Rigattieri for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, Murano, in the late 1960s or early 1970s. They have a tapering organic shape with hotworked detailing to the top, formed by hand, to give the look of a shell spiral.

They're of a muted purple glass, cased in a very thick layer of clear. The exteriors are decorated a scavo - a technique whereby the glass is rolled in ashes and salts whilst still semi-molten to create the time-weathered look of excavated Roman glass.

The lamps have been refitted with a period-style Italian black Bakelite E27 bulb-holders, to fit standard UK/European shades.
