A rare and large glass 'Nautilus' table lamp, designed by Vittorio Rigattieri for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, Murano, in the late 1960s or early 1970s. It has a tapering organic shape with hotworked detailing at the top, formed by hand, to give the look of a shell spiral.
It is a very dark purple glass, cased in a very thick layer of clear. The exterior is decorated a scavo - a technique whereby the glass is rolled in ashes and salts whilst still semi-molten to create the time-weathered look of excavated Roman glass.
The lamp has been refitted with a period-style Italian black Bakelite E27 bulb-holder, to fit standard UK/European shades.
