Huge Scavo Bottle Vase

Antonio Da Ros, c.1970

Gino Cenedese & C., Italy

Sold! (approx. € EUR / $ USD)

An oversized bottle vase, or decorative decanter, of octagonal form with large ball-shaped stopper, designed by Antonio Da Ros for Gino Cenedese & C., Murano, in the early 1970s.

The decanter is a very vibrant aqua blue glass that graduates to clear, with the same effect on the stopper, both decorated a scavo - a technique that has the glassmaker roll the hot glass in salts and ashes to create an unevenly matted surface similar to 'excavated' Roman and Etruscan glass.

The decanter bears an original factory label to the side.
