Exceptional and rare soffiato (thinly mouth-blown) wine carafe in the Roman style, produced by Pauly & C. Compagnia Venezia Murano (C.V.M.) in the mid-1920s.
The sides and upper half of the vase are hand-enamelled with a repeating pattern of seagulls and vines with gilt accents.
It is made from a delicate rauchtopaz-coloured glass with a plethora of small bubbles and seeds, mimicking much older glass. It has an applied foot, a bulbous body and an unusual triangular rim, the corners of which act as pouring spouts.
