Hanging Architectural Glass Slab

Christer Sjögren, c.1970

Lindshammar Glasbruk, Sweden

£22 (approx. € EUR / $ USD)

A single original 1970s cyan blue glass rectangular suncatcher / architectural slab with applied hook for hanging in a window. It is from the 'Arkitektur-Glas' series, designed by Christer Sjögren for Swedish glassworks, Lindshammar Glasbruk.

Originally produced as sections for dalle-de-verre windows (stained glass windows of glass slabs set into concrete) prevalent in 1960s and 1970s architecture, they were also retailed as paperweights / decorative objects, and incorporated into metal sculptures, lamps and candlesticks by a variety of third-party companies, perhaps most famously by Ystad Metall.

They are 'new old stock', discovered in a Copenhagen glass warehouse that had closed its doors in the mid-1970s.
