Brutalist Two-Arm Candelabrum

Christer Sjögren, c.1970

£50 (approx. € EUR / $ USD)

A vintage and very striking 2-arm candelabrum with a masculine and roughly-hewn form that draws on the traditions of brutalism. It was designed in the late 1960s or early 1970s by Christer Sjögren for Swedish glassworks, Lindshammar.

It is made of very heavy ice-textured cast lead crystal glass - weighing in at a little over 2.5kg / 5.5lb.

The candlestick was hand-cast, which necessarily incorporates the foibles of hand-made glass processes - random bubbles, swirls, folds and ripples - that lend it a rusticated appearance.
