Metal & Glass Candle Sconce, c.1970

Äkta Torsmide / Lindshammar, Sweden

£65 (approx. € EUR / $ USD)

A candle wall sconce for two candles, made of black-lacquered wrought metal with four inset glass roundels in orange and green, produced by Swedish smithy, Äkta Torsmide. The roundels are from the 'Arkitektur-Glas' series, designed by Christer Sjögren for Swedish glassworks, Lindshammar Glasbruk.

The wrought metal is arranged with heart-shaped motifs that hold the rings in which the roundels are mounted.

The roundels themselves are hand-poured, using open-backed casting, which necessarily incorporates the foibles of hand-made glass processes - random bubbles, swirls and ripples - but present a smooth front surface.

The sconce can be hung very easily on a simple single screw or nail.

Bears original foil label to the reverse.
