A very striking and very large glazed terracotta mosaic abstract wall panel by award-winning German ceramic artist, teacher and author, Hildegard Storr-Britz (b. 1915 - d.1982), titled 'Mutter und. Kind' (Mother and Child), and created in the late 1950s or very early 1960s - certainly prior to her marriage to James Storr in 1963.
The wall hanging, featuring a woman with a striped dress and bob haircut holding an infant against a bold background of variegated blues, is made of individually formed tiles, both glazed and unglazed, set into a concrete matrix. The features of the two figures are scratched into the surface.
Signed to the front, 'Britz', with the original exhibition label to the back.
The panel is set into a painted iron frame with hardboard backing. It has an integral hook, and is ready to hang and display. It weighs 12kg / 26.5lb.
