A very vibrant massello sculpture of perfectly plump penguin with blue over red sommerso (submerged colours) decoration. It was designed by Murano glass artist, Livio Seguso, for German glassworks, Gral Glas, in 1978.
Massello glass, or 'full' glass, is made without being blown, but is instead formed entirely by physical manipulation whilst hot. The resulting sculptures will tend to be very heavy, as this penguin is.
